We in LCO are working very hard to revive this traditional Palestinian techniques through marketing the products for those poor families who make them. And to keep the tradition alive we have create training opportunities for the youth, especially females. All of the money wich is earned with those peaces flows directly to the families.

The handcrafts training program

By providing the youth in Bethlehem city with the needed skills and knowledge to become skillful handcrafts workers, we are giving them a great chance for a better future. The history of Bethlehem as the city of Jesus Christ gives it a great religious importance not only for Christians around the world, but also for all people and nations on this planet. This history gives the handcrafts pieces created in Bethlehem a great significance and potential for marketing. It has the potential to provide those youth with a stable career that will supply them with a reasonable source of income and keep them away from entering the violence equation because of poverty and misery. Accordingly, we started our first class for handcrafts training in Bethlehem in cooperation with the Silesian school in Bethlehem city and the help of the Italian government. The program contains 15 young men and women and will cover skills in olive wood, ceramics, and mother of pearl. Students will spend a full nine months learning on real materials and samples and also receiving artistic training in those fields.
